RUSSELL A. HENDERSON
Russell Henderson, was born the son of Joseph and Charlotte Cope Henderson on September 20, 1927 in Paullina, Iowa. Russell passed away September 13, 2007 at Kavanagh house on Grand Avenue, West Des Moines, Iowa at the age of 79 years, 11 months and 24 days.
After graduating high school at Scattergood Friends Boarding School, Russell attended William Penn College in Oskaloosa. From Penn Russell attended the University of Iowa, graduating in 1952. Russell then went to Europe with a group to help in reconstruction after World War II, working in Germany and Italy. While there he combined work with some sight seeing.
While working as a bookkeeper, Russell met Carol Geib on a blind date in Hammond, Indiana. They were married on December 28, 1963 in Hammond, Indiana. This union was blessed with two children, Chris and Carin. They moved to Lowell, Indiana where Russell worked as an accountant for a John Deere dealership. In 1973 they moved to Earlham, Iowa to join in a partnership with Knight Construction Company. Several years later Russell started his own cabinet making business and started raising beef cattle. Russell loved raising cattle which he did until his retirement. Russell and Carol traveled south in the winter for six weeks each year visiting Texas and Arizona. Russell attended Peace Lutheran Church and was very active in constructing the first building. He made the kitchen cabinets and baptismal font. Later he did what he could on the new addition plus he made the two new coat racks. Russell did some building for the Dallas County Conservation at several of their parks. He enjoyed bird watching, fishing and especially spending time with family and friends.
Russell is survived by his loving wife Carol of Earlham, son Chris and wife Trudy of Earlham, daughter Carin and friend Bud Johnson of Des Moines, and granddaughters Tegan and Kayla of Earlham., a niece, nephew, cousins and many friends.
Russell was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Dorothy (Henderson) Augspurger.
