ETHYLE CUMMINS, Winterset

Ethyle Marie Cummins, 87, of Winterset died Dec. 1, 2007, at her home.

Funeral services were held today (Wednesday, Dec. 5) at the First United Methodist Church in Winterset with the Rev. Dr. Beverlee Bell and the Rev. Kevin Smith officiating. Burial was at Peru Cemetery.

Ethyle Cummins was born July 28, 1920, to Clyde and Rose (Scott) Brown of Melcher. After receiving a master’s degree from Drake University, she was a teacher and counselor in Russell, Chariton and Des Moines. Her marriage to Wayne Cummins took place June 17, 1944, in Dallas, Iowa. Ethyle, a resident of Winterset since 1982, was a member of the Tri-L Club, Winterset Women’s Club and the Peru United Methodist Church. She also was a poet, with a poem placed in the National Library of Poetry in Owings Mills, Md.

She was preceded in death by her husband; one daughter, Karen Allbee; a brother, Harold Brown; and a sister, Esther Bourek.

She is survived by one daughter, Sharon Reynolds of Ankeny, and four grandchildren.

Memorials may be directed to the family for future designation.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Collins Oak Park Chapel & Funeral Services in Winterset.
