Mrs. G. I. Huffman

Nettie Marie McBride was born in Dallas county, Iowa, Aug. 12, 1875. She grew up on a farm. Early in life she made the confession and became a earnest member of the Methodist church. She was a leader of everything that was for the betterment of her home, church and community. At the age of 23 she was married to G. I. Huffman, who survives her, and made their home in Des Moines, where she entered heartily into church and city mission work, devoting much time to the children and young people of the First Methodist church.

Ten years ago last September she moved with her husband to Iowa Colony, Texas, where she has since labored as superintendent of Sunday school and secretary of the Red Cross society. A year ago she had an attack of flu from the effects of which she never recovered. On Saturday, Dec. 4th, she was taken to the John Seely hospital Galveston, where under the direction of Dr. Graves, every means know to science was used to save her to this life. Her trouble was pronounced as advanced disease of Bright's disease causing a blood pressure of 284. She died in the hospital Sunday morning, Dec. 12, 1920 leaving a husband, G. I. Huffman and one son, Floyd, 11 years old, to exemplify the life of the mother, who passed on, rich in the love of her Heavenly Father whom she knew as a personal Savior.

The body was brought here at her request and interred in the family lot in Rock City cemetery beside her infant son, Sandy for whom she bore an overwhelming grief. The funeral was held from the home of Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Stout, Mrs. Stout being a sister; conducted by Dr. N. C. Carpenter of the Church of Christ and the local chapter of the Eastern Star.
