Jessie Howe, 89, passed away Thursday, August 25, 1983, following a one year illness at the Winterset Care Center North.
Jessie Nellie Childers was born Oct. 13, 1893 in Winterset, the daughter of Carl and Ella Mae (Garlinger) Childers. She was married to Winn Hartman. On Nov. 15, 1962, she was married to Robert A. Howe, who preceded her in death on Aug. 31, 1972.
She was a lifelong resident of Creston.
Mrs. Howe is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Hayes (Cecil) Lucas of Murray; three grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Robert McKay of Des Moines.
In addition to her husband, Robert, she was preceded in death by a son, Raymond Hartman; a daughter, Mildred Jones; a brother and 2 sisters.
Funeral services were held Monday morning at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Creston with Rev. Thomas Coenen officiating. Burial was at the Calvary Cemetery with the Coen-Beaty Funeral home in charge.
A memorial to the VFW Auxiliary has been established.
