Mary A. Guye, daughter of George and Lurana Guye, was born in Madison county, August 9, 1852 and passed away at the Winterset hospital June 21, 1925, at the age of 72 years, 10 months and 12 days. Ten years ago she suffered a stroke of paralysis, from which she never fully recovered. Although of a very frail condition she labored on cheerfully and without a complaining word, always ready to help in time of need. Her last sickness extended over a period of two months, but she bore it bravely and smiled through it all. She grew to womanhood on a farm north of Winterset and spent the early part of her life in or near Winterset, later spending several years with her uncle Frank Guye in Seattle, Wash. In 1915 she returned to Winterset to care for her aged father who preceded her in death five years ago.

Early in life she united with the Church of Christ at Early Chapel, but during the revival meetings this spring, she transferred her membership to the Winterset Church of Christ. She was affiliated with the Eastern Star lodge of Seattle and was also an active member of Isle lodge of Tacoma, Wash.
