Obituary – Mrs. Jesse Iiams

Ida Ann Beem was born in Madison county, Iowa April 20, 1864 and died Nov. 15, 1911, aged 47 years, six months and 25 days. Early in life she was converted and joined the M. E. church at St. Charles where she has ever been a faithful member and a devoted worker.

She was married to Jesse Iiams, Sept 1881. To this union were born three sons, Floyd H., of Newport, N. D., Beryl L. and Roy, who still reside at home. She leaves to mourn her sad departure, a husband, three sons, four sisters and three brothers, besides a host of friends. She was a good wife, a kind and loving mother, and a friend to all. While she will be greatly missed around our family circle, we have the glad assurance that she has gone to be with her Master. The funeral was held at the M. E. church in St. Charles, on Saturday morning at 11 o’clock, conducted by Rev. Corkill. The remains were laid to rest in the St. Charles Cemetery.

A very lengthy poem follows.

LOSES LIFE IN ACCIDENT

Mrs. Jesse Iiams, of Hanley, Killed in Runaway, Team Scares at Automobile

Mrs. Iiams, wife of Jesse Iiams, who lives a short distance west of Hanley, was almost instantly killed, yesterday morning, while on her way to Winterset. Mrs. Iiams and her nineteen year old son met E. W. Travis, rural mail carrier on the little hill just east of the Providence church in Scott township. The team took fright at Mr. Travis’ auto, wheeled around in the road and threw the occupants on the frozen ground. Mrs. Iiams was dragged a short distance in the overturned buggy and received injuries about the head that rendered her unconscious. She was at once taken to the home of Mrs. Sarah Peak, who lives nearby, where she died in about an hour, without regaining consciousness and before any of her relatives could reach her. Mrs. Iiams, whose maiden name was Beem, was a sister of Mrs. Levi Ray and Mrs. Jeff. Rhyno.

Those who witnessed the accident do not blame Mr. Travis in any way. He stopped the machine as soon as the team came in sight and did all in his power to assist Mrs. Iiams after the accident. The team frightened and turned in the road so quickly that neither the driver of the team nor the driver of the auto had any opportunity to prevent the unfortunate accident. The young man who was driving the team was not injured.
