Mrs. Wm. Painter of Peru, died early Tuesday morning. Her son, Dr. Carl Painter of Chicago and her sister, Mrs. B. S. Todhunter, were both at her bedside when the end came. Funeral services were held from the Peru M. E. church, on Wednesday. Thus ends the earthly life of one of our early settlers and a much beloved Christian woman. Mrs. Painter, who was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Pleasant Deardorff, came to this community when a little girl, with her parents. When grown to womanhood, she became the wife of Dr. Wm. Painter and with the exception of a few years, her life has been spent in that community.

Again, this vicinity is called upon to say good bye to a beloved sister and while our hearts are saddened, we rejoice to know that sister Mary Painter has only passed on before to await the coming of her loved ones.

She died November 21st, passing sweetly away as she had lived her life among us. Those from a distance, who came to attend her funeral were her sons, Dr. Carl Painter from Rush Medical college, Chicago; Clair of Des Moines and Mrs. Bang----(unreadable), Mary Gosseth of Montezuma, Mrs. C. W. Wright and Mrs. R. A. Green of Des Moines, M. I. Silliman and wife of Winterset, Mrs. Murphy, Mrs. Alexander, and Mrs. Verna Macumber of Ord, Ernest Todhunter of Maxwell, B. S. Todhunter and wife and daughter Edna, of Earlham, and Newt Moorman and wife of Clark county.

The funeral services were held in the M. E. church by the pastor, H. W. Brewer on the 22d, after which the body was laid in the Ebeneezer cemetery, to await the resurrection morning.

Note: Burial was in the Ebenezer Cemetery.
