August Ferdinand Ziemann was born in Pommern, Germany, July 23, 1839, where he also was married to Wilhelmina Kruger Ziermann in 1863. He emigrated to Iowa in 1870 and lived three and one half years in the town of Guttenberg in Clayton county, where he immediately applied for U. S. citizenship papers.
He was one of the 16 charter members of Trinity Lutheran church in Jefferson township, Madison county, all of whom with one exception have preceded him in death. The church building which they erected in 1885 and which has been in constant use, was filled to capacity at his funeral services.
He himself attended church regularly until he took sick with the dropsy early in June. He died Sept. 25th having reached the age of 79 years, 2 months and 2 days and was buried Sept. 28.
Three of his children have preceded him in death also his wife, who died in 1910. He is survived by sixteen grandchildren and six children; Reinhold and Wiliam of North Dakota; John, Emil and Otto Ziemann and Mrs. Otto Fundinger of near Van Meter.
