Page 4Death by Lightning.
We regret to learn of the sad death by lightning of Charley, son of W. H. and Helen Armstrong, of Grand River township. The accident occurred last Monday about two o'clock in the afternoon. He and his father were plowing corn when the storm came up. His father, who was at some little distance, suggested that they would better leave the field. Young Armstrong had begun to unhitch his team, and just as he stepped up to the horses' heads to unsnap the lines, the lightning struck and killed him and both horses, he falling and both horses falling on him. The remains were taken to Indianola for burial by the 12:35 train Tuesday.
This is a sad bereavement of a most excellent family. Charley was about sixteen years of age, and the only son. He will be greatly missed by his parents and sisters and a host of friends. A number of friends from Winterset went out Tuesday morning to meet the funeral procession on the way to the train.
