William Cunningham Henery was born Feb. 24, 1832 in Guernsey county, Ohio. He was called away from this world Friday morning, Feb. 3d. Had he lived three weeks longer, he would have been 90 years of age. He is the last of a family of six children.

He was married to Sarah E. Leech, May 22, 1865 at Washington, Ohio. For nearly 57 years of happy married life he and his wife have enjoyed the blessings of a Christian home in a Christian land, and members together of the Church of Jesus Christ. Six children were born: Virginia, Ella and Lena Maud, who died in infancy; Josiah Wilbur, who died at Portland, Ore., in 1905; and John Alva and Cora Maud. He also leaves his wife, Mrs. Sarah E. Henery. There are two grandchildren.

In 1866, with one child, he and his wife moved from their home in Ohio, and located in Winterset. Here they have been since that time, excepting a short time spent in Omaha, and about two years spent in Patterson, where he had a general store and grain elevator and where the elevator burned down. While in Winterset, Mr. Henery was associated with R. L. Leech in a general store and was also a commercial traveling man for a part of the time. He retired from business about 15 years ago.

He united with the Presbyterian church when a young man and has been faithful to his vows and obligations for more than 70 years of loyal, devoted service. He was especially interested in the Men’s Bible class of this church of which he was a member for 55 years. He served as secretary of the class at one time and also as a trustee of this church, during which time he negotiated the sale of the old church building. For more than half a century he was in his place at church for he enjoyed good health during his long life. During more recent years, he was not able to hear the sermon, but he was faithful.

Funeral services were held in the Presbyterian church on Sunday afternoon, conducted by the pastor, Rev. LeRoy C. Cooley.
