Services for Rudolph G. Messersmith, 88, of Winterset were held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 14 at the Collins Funeral Home with Rev. Charles Updike officiating. Burial was in the Winterset Cemetery. Mr. Messersmith died Monday, March 12, 1979, at Veteran's Hospital in Des Moines.
The son of Ferdmand and Agusta Amelia Krause Messersmith, he was born on July 16, 1890 in Berlin, Germany. He was married to Pearl A. Flesher Rowe in 1948 in Winterset. Mr. Messersmith lived here for 36 years and was an army veteran of World War Two. A retired farmer, he was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Survivors include two stepsons, Harold Eugene Rowe of Valparaiso, Indiana, and Gene Lamar Rowe of Plymouth, Indiana; a step-daughter, Velma Francis Jordan of Auburn, Indiana; two brothers, Herman and Walter of Shelby; four sisters, Mrs. Minnie Smith, Mrs. Della Coleman of Des Moines, Mrs. Anna Flesher of Illinois, and Mrs. Bertha Rihner of Shelby; five grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife and his parents.
