Death of JAMES GREER

James L. Greer, a resident of Madison county since 1870, died at his home in Winterset, last Friday. Had he lived six days more he would have been 85 years old.

Mr. Greer was stricken suddenly. He had been in his usual health almost until the day of his death.

Mr. Greer was born near Brockville, Ontario, Canada, July 22, 1851, the son of Thomas and Sarah Greer. He grew to manhood in that province. In 1870 he came with his parents to this county, settling on a farm in Lincoln township. With the exception of a short return visit in Canada and a few years spent in Colorado, this county has remained his home.

He was married on May 28, 1889, to Mrs. Rettie Green. He united with the Methodist church under the pastorate of the Rev. Fred Harris and was an unusually faithful attendant until failing health interfered of late years. For nearly a quarter of a century he acted as usher.

Mr. Greer was a member of the local Independent Order of Odd Fellows and a charter member of the Rebekah lodge.

He is survived by his widow; a brother, W. W. Greer of Winterset and 15 nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Sunday from the Methodist church, in charge of the pastor, the Rev. M. R. Talley. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
