Death Of GEORGE PUTNAM

Geo. W. Putnam of the Elm Grove neighborhood, died Monday morning, death being due to diabetes, from which he has suffered for some time.

Funeral services were held at Elm Grove church on Tuesday and burial made in the Winterset cemetery.

Mr. Putman leaves a wife and family of grown children.

ELM GROVE

This neighborhood lost one of its most highly respected citizens by the passing away of G. W. Putnam at his home, Monday morning, Oct 14th at 3 o’clock. He had been sick for the past four months.

He has lived in this neighborhood nearly nineteen years He leaves to mourn his loss, his companion, who has been greatly afflicted for several years and who spends the greater part of her time in bed, his son, Roy who lives in western Montana, Mrs. Mattie Husted of this neighborhood and Miss Frances, who is at home; four grand children and other relatives and a large number of friends.

His funeral was held Tuesday at 4 p.m. at the Elm Grove church by Rev. Peer.

Burial in the Winterset cemetery.

The family have the sympathy of the entire community in their bereavement.

George W. Putnam was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Nov. 18th, 1853, and departed this life at his home in South township Oct. 14th. He was united in marriage to Hellen May King, Dec. 24, 1877. To this union was born four children, viz: Arch Lewis, died at the age of 11 months and 3 days, Roy, now living in Phillipsburg, Montana, Mrs. C. E. Husted, Frances and the bereft widow constituted the family circle, besides there were four grandchildren which were very dear to him.

Our departed brother gave his heart to God in early life and united with Congregational church and has lived an exemplary Christian life, always seeking to his Master’s will. A good life has gone out from among us, but his memory will ever be cherished, as he was a king and inoffensive neighbor and a loving husband and father
