WAYNE THRAILKILL, EARLHAM

Wayne Edward Thrailkill, 73, of Earlham died Oct. 11, 2007, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Graveside memorial services were held Monday, Oct. 15, at the Earlham Cemetery with Pastor Mike Evans officiating.

Wayne Thrailkill was born Jan. 21, 1934, in rural Madison County to Charles and Myrtle (Boyle) Thrailkill and was a 1953 graduate of Earlham High School. His marriage to Ardith Gentry took place Aug. 1, 1953. They were lifelong farmers in Madison County near Earlham. During his retirement, Wayne helped the Ory family with farming and delivering seed corn. He was a member of the Madison County Cattlemen’s Association and Farm Bureau.

He was preceded in death by his wife; one son, Darrell; and a sister, Mary Meyers.

He is survived by one daughter, Connie Smith of O’Fallon, Mo.; one son, David Thrailkill of O’Fallon, Mo.; a brother, John Thrailkill of Bethany, Mo.; two sisters, Helen Hallowell of Arizona and Carol Claussen of Odgen; and three grandchildren.

Memorials may be directed to the Earlham Fire and Rescue.

Arrangements were handled by Kuhn Funeral Homes of Dexter, Earlham and Redfield.

Graveside memorial services were held for Wayne Edward Thrailkill at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, October 15, 2007 at the Earlham Cemetery in Earlham, Iowa.

Pastor Mike Evans of Crossroad Evangelical Free Church of Earlham officiated. Special music was “On Eagles Wings”. Urnbearer was Doug Buchan.

Wayne Edward Thrailkill was born the son of Charles and Myrtle Boyle Thrailkill in rural Madison County, Iowa on January 21, 1934 and died at the Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa on October 11, 2007 at the age of 73 years, 11 months and 8 days.

Wayne graduated from the Earlham High School in 1953. Wayne and Ardith Gentry were married August 1, 1953. They would become life long farmers in Madison county near Earlham, Iowa. Wayne was a member of the Madison County Cattleman’s Association and a member of the Farm Bureau. Wayne was an avid hunter. He enjoyed going out into the woods in search of deer as well as in the fields for pheasant. Each spring Wayne would secretly go hunting for his cherished morel mushrooms. Wayne also looked forward to the many fishing trips to Lake Erie. During his retirement he looked forward to helping the Ory family with the farming and delivering seed corn. Wayne loved to go out to his shop and tinker. He spent many hours working on cars with his friend Doug Buchan. He would work on anybody’s car just to help them out.

To celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary, Wayne and Ardith went on an Alaskan trip for three weeks in which they rode on planes, trains, buses, and a cruise ship. Wayne especially enjoyed spending time with family.

He is survived by: his daughter Connie Smith and husband Edwin of O’Fallon, MO; son David Thrailkill of O’Fallon, MO; brother John Thrailkill of Bethany, MO; sisters Helen Hallowell and husband Richard of Arizona and Carol Claussen and husband Warren of Ogden, IA; 3 grandchildren: Cory Smith of St. Charles, MO; Keith Smith and wife Annie of Kansas City, MO; and Justine Smith of O’Fallon, MO.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, wife Ardith, son Darrell and a sister Mary Meyers.

Memorials may be directed to the Earlham Fire and Rescue.

Kuhn Funeral Homes was in charge of arrangements.
