JOHN MCVAY, ARKANSAS

John D. McVay, 69, of Harrison, Ark., and formerly of the Creston area, died Oct. 12, 2007, at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19, at Powers Funeral Home in Creston with Pastor Dwayne Henrichs officiating. Visitation will be from 2–8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, with family receiving friends from 6–8 p.m. Burial will be at Moon Cemetery in rural Macksburg with a flag presentation by Theodore J. Martens V.F.W. Post 1797 of Creston.

John McVay was born Nov. 7, 1937, to Forest and Thelma (Klos) McVay of Macksburg and was educated in the Thayer School District. His marriage to Ardna Lafollette took place May 16, 1963, in Santa Ana, Calif. They resided in California where John worked as a machinist. They later moved to Waterloo where he also was employed as a machinist with John Deere.

John later married Caroline (McMullen) Conaway on March 17, 1979, in Prescott. He and Caroline lived and worked in the Cedar Falls/Waterloo area until retiring in 1991. In 2000, they moved to Harrison, Ark. John was a member of the Eagles Lodge in Creston and U.A.W. Local 838 and Buzz’s Bar Association, both of Waterloo. He also was a veteran of the United States Navy.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant stepdaughter, Karen; five brothers — Keith, Calvin, Larry, Mike and Danny McVay; and three sisters — Helen Finnigan, Pat Ambrose and Kathy Craig.

He is survived by his wife, Caroline, of Harrison, Ark.; two daughters, Marsha Henderson of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Corina McVay of Independence, Mo.; two sons, Kevin McVay of Cromwell and Brian McVay of Bridgewater; two stepdaughters, Carol Brimacomb of Cedar Rapids and Diane Patterson of Leeds, Ala.; one stepson, Robert Brimacomb of Cedar Falls; two brothers, Duane McVay of Rogers, Ark., and Abe McVay of Winterset; two sisters, Judy Tull and Beth McGrath, both of Afton; and 13 grandchildren, eight stepgrandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and nine stepgreat-grandchildren.
