Obituary.

DIED – On the 22nd day of November, 1878, Matilda T. Beard, consort of William Beard, in Webster Township, Madison county, Iowa, of Pulmonary disease after a lingering illness of several years. Matilda T. Beard was a native of Adair county, Kentucky, and emigrated to Missouri in the year 1857 and removed from there to Iowa in 1860.

At an early age she united with the M. E. Church. On her arrival in Missouri there being no society of the church of her choice in the neighborhood in which she with her husband and family located she united with the Cumberland Presbyterians. After her removal to the State of Iowa and in the neighborhood in which she and the family located there being no society of the M. E. church nor of the Cumberland Presbyterians she united with the United Brethren Church of which she remained a devoted and consistent member until her death. She had always been an active worker in the vineyard of her Master until prostrated by affliction.

She retained the right use of her mind until her last moments, stating to her companion and children that she was prepared for and perfectly resigned to the approaching dissolution. Hers was a triumphant death, looking to the cross for grace to sustain her in her dying moments.

Funeral service by the Rev. Hoover of the Evangelical church. Peace to her slumbering remains, until the morning of the resurrection when all those that sleep in Jesus, God will bring with him to set in the Kingdom in that house not made with hands, eternal in the Heavens.
