Obituary.

Died Nov. 22, 1878 at his home near Winterset Iowa Mr. George W. Young. Mr. Young had been sick some seven weeks. His disease was chiefly in his lungs, greatly aggravated by malaria, till his whole system was broken down. He sank rapidly and was taken away very unexpectedly from the midst of his kind and devoted family.

He was born in Carroll county Maryland Oct. 17 1820. In 1845 he removed to Ohio where he lived till 1856 when he came to Iowa and located on the farm where he died. He was well known and highly respected by a large circle of neighbors and friends. He was a conscientious straightforward, decided man, that would not be turned aside from what he was persuaded was the course of duty. He was kind true and reliable, so that his word was as good as his bond.

He was regular in his attendance on the services of the Presbyterian church in Winterset and maintained family worship at home, yet he had such a sense of his own unworthiness that he never united with the church by a public profession of faith in Christ. He is greatly missed not only by his family but by his many acquaintances. We all feel that a good man has gone.
