Death of J. H. DETRICK

John H. Detrick died at his home on East Washington street on Feb. 24th, after a brief illness. On Sunday he was taken sick, apoplexy coming on gradually, resulting in death within a few days.

Funeral services were held in the Methodist church, Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. George D. Rogers, assisted by Rev. Jackson Giddens. Mrs. Detrick and one son, Wayne, survive him; another son, Earl, dying in the west in 1919.

Mr. Detrick was born in East Stroudsburg, Pa., in 1862, and was married in 1895 to Miss Mollie E. Davis at Clare, Iowa. Fifteen years ago the Detricks came to Winterset, which has since been their home. Mr. Detrick was a quiet reserved man, endowed with remarkable energy and industry. Painstaking and efficient in all of his work, he made himself a most useful citizen in this community and his death is deeply regretted.

To his wife and son the sympathy of the community is extended.

John H. Detrick

John H. Detrick was born in East Stroudsburg, Monroe county, Pa., on August 15, 1862. He passed away at his home in Winterset, Friday morning February 24, 1922, at the age of 59 years, 5 months and 9 days. He was united in marriage to Mollie E. Davis on December 25, 1895, at Clare, Iowa. To this union was born two sons, Earl D. and Wayne B., Earl having proceeded him September 30, 1919. Mr. Detrick came to Winterset 15 years ago. He was a member of the Modern Woodmen of America.

He was a very quiet and reserved man, a devoted husband and father always working for the good and comforts of his family and those about him. He leaves to mourn his loss besides his wife and son, Wayne, four sisters and two brothers and a host of friends and relatives.

The funeral was held at the Methodist church Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock conducted by Rev. Geo D. Rogers. Interment at the Rock City cemetery.
