MRS. ALEX MCCAULEY

Rebecca Montgomery, daughter of John and Margaret Montgomery, was born in Ireland May 29, 1858. She was united in marriage to Alexander McCauley, Nov. 22, 1880, and to this union were born 11 children, one of whom died in infancy.

The surviving children, all of whom were at her departure are Mrs. Margaret Stanfield, John McCauley of Creston, Mrs. Vesta Sabin of Armstrong, Mrs. Rebecca Francis of Fremont, Nebr.; Mrs. Elizabeth Krebiehl of Des Moines and Mrs. Mary Graham, Tom, Alex, Jr., James and Theodore, all of Madison County.

Mrs. McCauley, when she came with her husband to this country in 1888, settled near Altoona, in Polk county, where they lived for five y ears. They moved to Madison county in 1893, living near Bevington for six years and then moved to a farm near Winterset, where they continued to live at the time of her death, which came on March 8, 1922, following a stroke of apoplexy.

Mrs. McCaulty united with the Presbyterian church in Ireland, while yet in her childhood. While living at Altoona, she united with the Methodist church and when she came to her home near Winterset, she placed her membership in the Methodist church here, where she continued in fellowship until the time of her death. She was a devoted wife and mother, and a kind and good neighbor. Because of her beauty of character and her kind and friendly disposition, she won a large circle of friends, who together with the members of her family, will ever hold her in fondest memory.

Funeral services were held from the Methodist church on Friday afternoon, conducted by E. B. Chancellor, pastor of the Church of Christ. Burial was in the Winterset cemetery.
