Mary Edwards Tompkins of Everett, Washington, died in a hospital there, October 4, 1967, following an extended illness. Born March 13, 1878, near Earlham, Iowa, she had lived in Maryville and Everett, Washington for 20 years, having moved there from Minot, North Dakota. She was the widow of Alonzo L. Tomkins who died in 1956. She was a lifelong member of Bear Creek Friends church near Earlham.
Mrs. Tompkins leaves three sons: Vern, Snohomish, Wash; Ernest and Paul, who reside in Everett and a daughter, Dorothy Effertz of Minot, North Dakota, 12 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren.
A daughter-in-law wrote this Tribute: “She was a joy to be with to the very last, as her mind was clear until a few hours before her death. She was always the center of attraction at all of our family gatherings as she enjoyed us all so much, as well as the grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will surely be missed and remembered. We all have so many beautiful memories of time spent with her.”
Mrs. Tompkins was a sister of the late Dr. David Edwards, a former president of William Penn College.
