Stephen Bishop, an old resident of this part of the county died Saturday morning. His funeral was held in the church at this place Monday. The Baptist preacher in Winterset preached the sermon. A very large crowd of people followed the remains to the Barney cemetery where he was laid to rest.

Page 1Stephen T. Bishop was born in Shelby Co., Ind. February 15th, 1828. He died November 11, 1904 near Barney, Madison Co., Iowa. He was married to Elizabeth C. Brable in 1856. He has lived in Iowa since 1851.
Mr. Bishop was converted at the age of 18, and his mind was much occupied with religious subject, in time of his health he was a hard working man, the last years of his lifetime he was afflicted with mental trouble, but without he was called a good man.
He leaves a wife and six children, three sons and three daughters, four children preceded him in death making in all ten children.
Services were conducted by Rev. Fred Berry of Winterset, at Barney on Monday, November 14th.
