The fading ranks of Madison county's pioneer resident were again reduced last saturday with the death of Mrs. Evaline Hollingsworth. Mrs. Hollingsworth was 94 years old, and had lived in Madison county for 84 years. She saw the transformation of this county from raw prairie and woodland to its present state.
She was the daughter of Aaron and Lucinda Hiatt, and was born near Jonesboro, Indiana, November 5, 1840. She came to Peru with her parents in 1851. On December 25, 1862, she was married to N. B. Hollingsworth. He died in 1914.
Mrs. Hollingsworth was the mother of four children, two of whom died in infancy. The others, Darius and Dennis E. Hollingsworth, survive. She is also survived by six grandchildren; and two brothers, A. W. and L. P. Hiatt.
She was a charter member of the First Christian church in Winterset.
Funeral services were held from the M. E. church in Peru Tuesday, conducted by the Rev. E. L. Patterson., Burial was in the Peru cemetery.
