OBITUARY

Peter Hircock departed this life on Saturday evening at 8 o'clock, Aug. 16th, 1884.

He was born in England Sept. 26th, 1812, making his life 71 years, 10 months and 20 days.

For several years he has been a well known and good citizen of Madison county, esteemed by all in an earnest christian, devoted to the interests of the churches of Christ.

At the time of his death he was a faithful member of the Zion Baptist Church. For years he seemed ready waiting for the call to the better land. It came at last and he fell asleep in Jesus.

During his long illness, with much time for reading and meditation, he had selected the hymns to be used at his funeral as also the text for his funeral discourse, which was Titus, 1, 2.

The sermon was preached by the writer to a large and solemn audience each individual of which seemed anxious to share in the last tribute of respect for the departed. The procession to the Winterset city cemetery was very large.

The deceased leaves a wife and large family of children and grandchildren to mourn the loss; but they weep not as those who have no hope.

He departed "In hope of eternal life."
