FERN LEEPER, Idaho

Fern Josephine Leeper, 87, of Arimo, Idaho, died Aug. 7, 2007, in the Downey Care Center.

Graveside services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 21, at Penn Center Cemetery. A memorial service will follow at 11:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Winterset. A luncheon will be held immediately after the service.

Fern Leeper was born Feb. 7, 1920, in Stansbury, Mo., to George Washington and Fannie (Jelinek) Goodwin. She grew up and was educated in Iowa, graduating from Patterson High School. After working at various jobs, Fern enlisted in the United States Navy where she served during World War II. She also worked for Northern Bell Telephone Company for 30 years. She married Joe Toney in 1953. Following his death in 1955 she later married Clair Leeper in 1975. For the past four years, she resided in Arimo. Fern was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary for many years. She also was a member of the United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by both husbands, Joe Toney and Clair Leeper.

She is survived by one son, Dennis Toney of Arimo, Idaho; stepchildren Francia Koehn of Oregon and Ronald Leeper of Iowa; two sisters, Evelyn Driskill and Deleath Raymond, both of Iowa; a brother, Lawson Goodwin of Wisconsin; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
