Page 4Dexter-(Special)-Ross C. Speer, a resident of Madison county for most of 60 years, died at the home of his brother near Dexter on October 27. He was 69 years of age.
The son of William and Mary Speer, he was born near Le Claire, Ia., on Nov. 7, 1868. As a small boy, he came with his parents to Madison county, and with the exception of a few years spent in Montana, lived his entire life in the Dexter community.
As a boy he had united with the United Presbyterian church, later transferring to the Presbyterian church in Dexter.
He is survived by the following brothers and sisters: Albert J. Speer of Washington; Mrs. Alice Murray of Mound City, Kan.; Lloyd Speer of Dexter; Mrs. Ada Eyerly of Macksburg; Mrs. Anna Bentley of Portland, Ore.; Mrs. Claire Lyddon of Adair; and Walter H. Speer of Los Angeles.
Funeral services were conducted Oct. 29 from the Presbyterian church in Dexter by the pastor the Rev. J. H. Freedline.
