JAMES BECK Is Called By Death

James G. Beck, long time resident of Madison county, died Friday at his home in the north part of Winterset at the age of eighty-six.

Mr. Beck was a native of Ireland and was born near Belfast in 1839. In 1856 he came to the United States, settling in Illinois. In 1868, after serving in the civil war, Mr. Beck moved to a farm in Jackson township and about fifteen years ago the family moved to Winterset.

Mr. Beck was a prominent member of the United Presbyterian church and of the G.A.R.

Mrs. Ethel Miller, Miss Jeanette Beck and John Beck are the only children living in the county.

The funeral was held Sunday from the home, conducted by Rev. J. W. Stewart, of Oskaloosa, and Rev. W. Z. Allen, of the Winterset United Presbyterian church.

James G. Beck

James G. Beck was born near Belfast, Ireland, March 1, 1839. He came to this country in 1856, lived with his brother in Henderson county, Illinois, until July, 1861, when he went out with Co. E. 7th Iowa Infantry and served throughout the Civil War.

He was married to Miss Mary B. Thomson February 4, 1864 while home from the army on veteran furlough. To this union was born seven children, two of whom died in infancy. Five children, thirteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren survive him. The wife and mother passed away just five years ago. He was a long-time member of the U. P. Church and also a member of the G. A. R.

He came to Iowa in 1868 and settled on a farm in Jackson township, where he lived until about fifteen years ago, when he moved to Winterset where he spent the remaining years of his life, passing peacefully to his rest September 25, 1925.

Funeral services were held Sunday at 2 o’clock at the Beck home conducted by Rev. J. W. Stewart, of Oskaloosa, assisted by W. Z. Allen. Interment in the Rock City cemetery.
