Rachel Foster Reed

Rachel Foster, daughter of Moses and Perie (Peree) Foster was born in Tuscarawas county, Ohio Nov. 30, 1829 and passed away at the home of her son, Dr. M. B. Reed in Truro, Iowa, Jan. 12, 1926, aged 96 years, 1 month and 13 days. She was married to Benjaman Reed in Ohio, Dec. 25, 1851. In the fall of 1863 they came to Madison county, Iowa, settling in Scott township where they lived until 1873 when they moved to a farm west of Peru, living there until the death of her husband in 1894.

To this union was born three children, Austin, who passed away in 1916 (1918), Mrs. Lulu Wallace who is at present making her home in Indianola and Dr. M. B. Reed of Truro.

She was converted and joined the Christian church in Ohio when about 12 years of age in 1874. She with her husband united with the Seventh Day Adventist church. Although there has been no church of her choice that she could attend she was always faithful to her convictions and loved her Bible and got great pleasure and comfort in reading it. She was always quiet, and unassuming with that gentleness and unselfishness of a Christian character which endeared her to all and was dearest to those who knew her best.

For the last 6 years she had made her home with her son, Dr. M. B. Reed and wife, who have done everything to make her declining years pleasant. She leaves to mourn her loss two children, seven grandchildren, eight great grand children and one great, great grand child.

Note: Burial was in the Peru Cemetery.
