Winterset, IowaSERVICES HELD FOR MRS. JESSIE GORDON
Funeral services were held Friday from the First United Presbyterian church at Winterset for Mrs. Jessie Gordon, whose death had occurred June 21 at Lakewood, Colo. The Rev. John E. Fink, pastor of the First United Presbyterian church, officiated at the services. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
Mrs. Gordon, who was 88 years of age, was the widow of the late Rev. W. P. Gordon, who was pastor of the United Presbyterian church of Winterset from 1943 to 1949. His death occurred in 1951.
Mrs. Gordon was the former Jessie Walker, and was a native of Ohio, where she was born in Steubenville on Nov. 25, 1881. She was married to the Rev. Mr. Gordon at Avalon, Pa., on Sept. 9, 1909. Their first pastorate was in Delhi, N.Y. From 1921 to 1938 they were home missionaires for the Mount Home Missionary school in Kentucky and Tennesee. From there they moved to Kansas, and to Winterset in 1943.
Following the death of her husband, Mrs. Gordon remained in Winterset until 1962, when she moved to Colorado. She returned to Winterset in 1968, and had returned to Colorado just six weeks prior to her death.
During her life as a minister's wife, she helped her husband in teaching, visiting and with the church music.
She was a member of the First United Presbyterian church of Winterset, and a former member of the Columbian club here.
Surviving are a son, W. Paul Gordon of Castle Rock, Colo.; a daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth McLees of Boulder, Colo., five grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
