June 5, 1879 – page 2Death of Andrew Crawford.
Our citizens were startled with the sad announcement last Tuesday evening of the death of another of our best known and most respected citizens, Mr. Andrew Crawford, who departed this life upon that evening. Mr. Crawford has suffered terribly from the pains of disease during the past few months, and no doubt death is a happy relief to him, from his painful sufferings.
Mr. Crawford was one of the best business men that ever came to Winterset; although bowed down by clouds of misfortune, under which a majority of other men would have sank, he built up a good and substantial business, and had the satisfaction of seeing his sons succeed him as the successors to one of the largest business establishments in Winterset, enjoying the confidence and having the best wishes of all who know them.
Mr. Crawford will be sadly missed in the circle of friends and acquaintances who knew and esteemed him. A man of decided convictions and pronounced opinions, his views always carried with them great weight whenever expressed, and his wisdom and advice will be sadly missed. His family have the sympathy of all their numerous friends in this their sad affliction and sorrowful bereavement.
