BERTHA MITCHELL DIES AT 85 YEARS

Mrs. Bertha M. Mitchell of Winterset, a resident of Madison county for 53 years, died Monday, Aug. 24, at Memorial hospital here. She was 85 years of age.

Mrs. Mitchell was a native of Richville, Nebr., where she was born July 22, 1885, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Williams. She was married at Glenwood on Feb. 14, 1905, to Charles E. Mitchell. His death occurred in 1936.

She was a member of the Grace Baptist church in Winterset, and of the Women's Christian Temperance union.

Mrs. Mitchell was preceded in death by a son, Dale Mitchell, in 1967. She is survived by five children, Mrs. Margaret Binns of Winterset, Edward Mitchell of Madrid, John and Eldon Mitchell of Des Moines, and Mrs. Dorothy White of Winterset. Two children died in infancy.

She also leaves 14 grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Lela Nickel and Lillie Williams of Washington; and two brothers, Sylvester and George Williams of Washington.

Funeral services were held this Wednesday morning from the Grace Baptist church, conducted by the Rev. Melvin Mattox and the Rev. Glen Williams. Burial was made in the Wight cemetery.
