FUNERAL AT DEXTER FOR GEORGE LENOCKER

George F. Lenocker, a well known resident of Penn township, and later of Dexter, died in his sleep of a heart attack, early Tuesday morning March 24th in Clarinda at the age of 63 years. Mr. Lenocker was raised on a farm in Penn township and continued in farming and later he was in the insurance business as long as his health permitted. He has been a patient at the Veterans hospital in Des Moines for several periods of time.

A son of R. A. and Mattie Pace Lenocker, he was born on the family farm in Penn township October 22, 1895 and was graduated from the Dexter high school. He was a veteran of World War I and joined the Presbyterian church at Dexter when young. He was also active in the Masonic lodge, serving in the various offices and was a Shriner. He is a member of the Dexter legion post. He had resided in Dexter for the past 25 years.

He is survived by his widow the former Marjorie Brown of Des Moines and five sisters and a brother; Mrs. Sue Null of Winterset, Mrs. Frances Stevens of Mission, Texas, Mrs. Hester Marsh of Albany, Oregon, Mrs. Mildred Wilson of Richmond, Virginia, Mrs. Martha Kent of Santa Monica, Californis, and Bruce Lenocker of Bakersfield, California. A brother R. A. Lenocker preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held Friday March 27th at 1:30 p.m. at the Presbyterian church in Dexter, followed by burial in the family lot in the Dexter cemetery.

Last Rites Friday, March 27 for George Lenocker, 63

Member of Pioneer Family

A large number of friends and relatives attended the last rites of George Frederick Lenocker at the First United Presbyterian Church in Dexter on Good Friday afternoon, March 27. George, passed away early Tuesday morning, March 24, at the age of 63 years. He was the son of the late Reuben A. and Mattie Belle Lenocker, Dexter pioneers. He had lived in this community his entire lifetime and was a well-known farmer and insurance agent having won many friends throughout this part of Iowa.

The Reverend Robert Holloway officiated at the funeral services. Mrs. John Shepherd served as organist accompanying Mr. Marlin Piatt as he sang “The old Rugged Cross” and “Be Still My Soul”.

The lovely floral offerings were cared for by Mrs. Georgia Blohm, Mrs. Antoinette Adkins, and Mrs. Lenore Husted. Casketbearers were James McMenamin, Gary Drake, Russell Horn, Frank Husted, W. A. Gibson, and Arnold Schirm.

During the graveside services, brief Masonic honors were accorded by the Mount Tabor Lodge of Dexter. The interment was in the Dexter cemetery. Funeral arrangements were by the Roy E. Evans Funeral Home of Dexter.

OBITUARY

George Frederick Lenocker, son of Reuben A. and Mattie Belle Lenocker, was born in Penn Township, Madison County, Iowa, on October 22, 1895. He departed from this life on March 24, 1959 at the age of 63. He graduated from the Dexter High School in 1915.

He answered his country’s call and served in World War I. He was a life long member of the Presbyterian church in Dexter, was raised a Master Mason in 1918, and received the thirty second degree in the Des Moines Consistory in 1919. Until the time of failing health he gave sincerely of his very best in services to his family, his friends, his church and his community. He was a Past Master of Mount Tabor Lodge A.F. & A.M., and a Past Patron of Fealty Chapter, O.E.S. both of Dexter.

He was united in marriage in Des Moines on March 9, 1934 to Marjorie Brown of that city. Although no children blessed this union, their home was often filled with children’s voices and laughter, for he was beloved Uncle George to a score of nieces and nephews, who cherish his memory.

Preceding him in death were his father and mother, and a brother, R. A., who died in infancy.

He leaves to mourn his death his wife Marjorie, his sisters, Mrs. Pearl (Francis) Stevens of Mission, Texas; Mrs. Charles (Hester) Marsh of Albany, Oregon; Mrs. Sue Null of Winterset; Mrs. Wyman (Mildred) Wilson of Richmond, Virginia; Mrs. Martha Kent of Santa Monica, California; and a brother, Bruce, of Bakersfield, California and a host of friends.
