Death of Mrs. Lum Miller

Mrs. Lum Miller (Maggie) who has made her home in Winterset for over fifty years died early this morning at her home in the southwest part of town. Mrs. Miller became ill about a week ago with flu and bronchitis and her condition gradually became worse.

Mrs. Miller was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Benson and was born in Louisa county. She came here with her parents when she was twelve years of age and has since made her home in Winterset.

Funeral services have not been definitely decided upon but they will be at the Church of Christ. Mrs. Miller is survived by her husband and three children, Mrs. Richard (Lilly) Bandy of Minneapolis, Mrs. John Huss of Winterset and Ray of Des Moines.

Margaret, daughter of Samuel and Angeline Benson, was born in Louisa county, Iowa, February 19th, 1857. She came with the family to Winterset when a young girl.

She was united in marriage to C. C. Miller in 1877 and to this union were born four children, John dying in infancy, and the others are Mrs. Myrtle Huss of near Winterset, Mrs. Lilly Bandy of Minneapolis and Ray Miller of Des Moines.

Mrs. Miller has been ever a faithful worker and a useful, helpful member of the community. She united with the Baptist church in Winterset when a young woman and later transferred her membership to the Church of Christ, where she was a member at the time of her death. She was an active Christian, taking delight in the word of God and in prayer at the last she told her children to look up some of her favorite passages of scripture after she was gone and told them she was going to a better place. She was a good neighbor, a devoted mother and a faithful wife.

She passed away after a brief illness on January 27th, 1927, and leaves beside her husband and children, 11 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; also two brothers, Milton of Atlanta, Georgia, and Ed of Villisca; and one sister, Mrs. Hattie Hutchings of Des Moines.

Funeral services were held at the Church of Christ Saturday, January 29th, at 2 o’clock, conducted by Rev. F. Clare McCallon.
