Death of Mrs. John Ross

Mrs. John Ross, an old time resident of this county, died Saturday January 22nd at the age of 71 years.

Mrs. Ross, who was born in Illinois moved here with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Jones, when she was a small child. She was married to Mr. Ross in 1876 and they made their home in the Macksburg neighborhood for many years. In 1906 they moved to Winterset and resided in the home now occupied by Mrs. Emma Carey. Later they moved to the west part of town and lived in the home now occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Warren Smith.

Mrs. Ross was a lady that all of her friends and acquaintances liked and was a devoted mother.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. D. J. Shenton at Tidrick's funeral home, Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock and burial was made in the Winterset cemetery. Mrs. Ross is survived by her husband three sons, and a daughter and two brothers and a sister.

Emma, daughter of John and Sally Jones, was born in Minard county, Illinois, January 14th, 1856. She moved to Madison county with the family when a small child. As a girl and young woman she had an active part in the social life of the community.

She was married to John Ross, October 12th, 1876, and to this union, four children were born: Charles F. of Empire, Colorado; Frank D. of Macksburg; Carrie of Des Moines, and Roy G. of Tulsa, Oklahoma.

They lived on a farm in the home neighborhood and later near Macksburg, moving to Winterset in 1906. She united with the Union Chapel church east of Winterset in her early womanhood, and at the time of her death was a member of the Methodist church in Winterset.

She passed from this life on January 22nd, 1927, aged 71 years and 8 days, leaving to mourn her death, her husband, children and nine grandchildren, two brothers, E. Jones of Winterset and John Jones of Boise, Idaho, and a sister, Mrs. H. C. Hicks of Winterset, Iowa, besides a host of friends and acquaintances.

Rev. D. J. Shenton conducted the funeral service Monday afternoon at Tidrick’s funeral home and the interment was made in the Winterset cemetery.

FUNERAL SERVICES – MRS. JOHN ROSS

The death of Mrs. John Ross, seventy-one years old, member of an old Madison county family, occurred January 22. Mrs. Ross came to the county from Illinois with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Jones, in the early sixties. Her marriage to John Ross took place in 1876.

Mr. and Mrs. Ross made their home on a farm near Zion church, later moving to Macksburg and to Winterset in 1906.

Her husband, who makes his home in Afton; a daughter, Mrs. Oren Beach, of Des Moines; three sons, Roy Ross of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Charles Ross, of Empire, Colorado; and Frank Ross, of Macksburg survive. Other relatives include a sister, Mrs. Clinton Hicks, of Emerson; two brothers, Elijah Jones of Winterset, and John Jones, of Boise, Idaho.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon from Tidrick’s funeral home, conducted by the Rev. D. J. Shenton, of the Methodist church. Interment was in the Winterset cemetery.
