Death of Will Hudson

Will Hudson, one of the early day residents of this county and a former business man of Winterset died suddenly last Sunday morning at the home of his niece, Mrs. Gertrude Duff Phelps of Steele, South Dakota.

Mr. Hudson who was the first proprietor of the old Hotel-de-Horse now occupied by the Hammond Lumber Company, moved from Winterset to Harlan, where he engaged in business. In recent years, he resided at Josie, Nebraska and was visiting his niece in South Dakota at the time of his death.

The Hudson family were among the very early settlers in Douglas township. Of the original family, Mr. T. J. Hudson, who is spending the winter at Denver, Colorado, Luther Hudson and Mrs. Sarah J. Duff of this county are the remaining members. Mr. Hudson leaves one son, John, who resides at Josie, Nebraska.

The funeral was conducted at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon at the home of Sarah Duff, by Rev. F. Clare McCallon. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.

WILL HUDSON DIES IN NORTH DAKOTA

William Hudson, former Winterset businessman, brother of Thomas and Luther Hudson and Mrs. George Duff, died at the home of his niece, Mrs. Gertrude Phelps, in Steele, North Dakota. The funeral was held here Wednesday afternoon, at the home of Mrs. Duff. Mrs. Phelps accompanied the body here.

William Hudson grew to manhood in Madison county. For many years was in the livery business, moving to Harlan. His wife, who was Dollie McAndrew, died there. Their son, John, who was here for the funeral, lives in Josie, Nebraska, and Will had been living with him for several years.

Will Hudson was a genial and popular man in Winterset and had many friends here. His funeral yesterday afternoon was largely attended. Tom Hudson, who is spending the winter in Denver was unable to come.

William C. Hudson

William C. Hudson, son of William and Elizabeth Hudson, was born at Bedford, Indiana, August 6, 1854, and died at Steele, North Dakota, January 23, 1927.

He leaves to mourn his death one son, John H., of Josie, Nebraska; one sister, Sarah J Duff; and two brothers, Tom and Lute, of Winterset. His wife, Dolly McAndrew Hudson, died at Harlan, Iowa, July 25, 1911.

Mr. Hudson united with the Congregational church at Harlan, Iowa, during the Sunday Evangelistic services held at that place. He was a loving father, a kind brother and a generous friend. He was indeed “a friend of man”. He was never too weary or too busy to help one in need.

Funeral services were preached by the Rev. F. Clare McCallon, pastor of the Church of Christ, Wednesday afternoon, January 26, at the home of his sister, Mrs. Sarah Duff. Interment was in the Winterset cemetery.
