Ida Emma Clapper was born in Martial county, Indiana, December 17, 1869 and died at her home in Patterson, July 11, 1917. On May 30, 1888 at Winterset she was married to T. H. Debord. To this union came the added blessings of six children, all of whom survive.
Mrs. Debord leaves to mourn her husband, T. H. Debord, her children, Fred H. of Emmetsburg; Ora A. of Minneapolis; Albert J., of Des Moines; Ella Debord Tinscher of Ankeny; Howard H. of Patterson; and Glen at home. She also leaves three grandchildren, Dale and Francis Tinscher and Dale Debord; two sisters, Mrs. Leland of Emmetsburg and Mrs. Baker of Oswego, Kansas and one brother, Will Miles of Indianola.
In her early days Mrs. Debord was an attendant of the Presbyterian church. During the pastorate of Rev. M. J. Rarick, she united with the M. E. church at Patterson. Mrs. Debord was a very devoted mother and an inspiration to those with whom she met.

Poured Oil on Fire Causing ExplosionMrs. T.J. Debord of Patterson, was terribly burned yesterday noon while preparing dinner. The range fire was slow in starting and she attempted to hasten it by the use of coal oil. An explosion resulted, in which Mrs. Debord's clothing was burned off her body, the fire eating through one side into the abdomen. Her burns are of such a nature that her recovery is impossible and her death is a matter of a short time.
A daughter from Ankeny and a sister from northern Iowa have arrived to be with her. One son living in Patterson and two sons have not yet been heard from. Mr. Debord and family have the sympathy of the community in the calamity which has come to their home.
The accident set fire to the kitchen of the Debord home, but was extinguished. Mrs. Debord had charge of the telephone service at Patterson, Manager Black being their today, looking after the lines.

This community has been saddened by the untimely death of Mrs. T.H. Debord, who was fatally burned on last Tuesday and died on the day following. Funeral services, conducted by her pastor, Rev. Nielson, were held at the M.E. church on Friday afternoon. It was attended by a large concourse of friends and neighbors. Burial in the Montpelier cemetery.
Mr and Mrs. Ora Debord of Minneapolis, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Tincher of Ankeny, Mr. and Mrs Bert Debord of Des Moines and Fred Debord of Emmetsburg were called to Patterson by the death of their mother, Mrs. T.H. Debord.
