Mrs. Elza Cook died at her home Monday, February 8. She was eighty years old. She had been in poor health for some time. She had been a resident of this community for many years. Her obituary follows:
Jennie Peer, eldest child of H. C. and K. E. Peer, was born August 26th, 1862 in Jasper county, Iowa, and she departed this life in her home at Earlham, February 8th, 1943, at the age of 80 years, five months and 13 days.
She came with her parents to Redfield, Iowa, in the fall of 1876; the following spring they moved to Dexter, where she spent her young womanhood.
On November 3rd, 1890 she was united in marriage with W. H. Crosswait who died May 6th,1902. On January 1st, 1906 she was united in marriage with Elza Cook of Earlham.
She was christened in the Methodist faith and became a member of that church, but later moved her membership to the Bear Creek Friends church.
Mrs. Cook was a faithful member of the church, the Sunday School and the ladies Societies, and also a member of the Sunday School Board. She always attended all services whenever her health permitted. She was a member of the Earlham Chapter 298 Order of Eastern Star of Iowa.
She led an active and busy life and made many friends wherever she lived. She leaves to mourn her passing her husband, Elza Cook of Earlham, one step-son, Elkanah S. Cook of Kinona, Washington; one step-daughter, Lillian Filmore of Walla Walla, Washington; two brothers, J. W. Peer of Artesian, South Dakota, and J. I. Peer of Algona, Iowa. Also one sister, Mrs. S. S. Miller of Evansville, Indiana, and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held from the home in Earlham, and from Bear Creek Friends church Wednesday afternoon, February 10. Rev. L. A. Phinney, pastor, officiating, assisted by Rev. W. H. Wilson. Mrs. Bernard Standing and Mrs. Walter Mapes, Oren Hadley and Frank Parker sang three sons, with Mrs. Leo Conrad as accompanist. Burial in the Bear Creek cemetery.
