Mrs. Paul Clausen was born on September 8, 1874 on the island of Pellworm, belonging to the province of Schleswig, Holstein, Germany. Her maiden name was Lucy Marie Clausen. She was one of seven children born to Niclaus Clausen and his wife Tomasline, nee Diedricksen.
Arriving in New York City on October 24, 1908 she was there united in marriage with Paul Clausen who preceded her in death by 35 years, departing this life on August 19, 1925.
Shortly after her marriage, she came with her husband to our community where they established their home on a farm south of Dexter in Penn Township.
Here her three children were born: Christine, now Mrs. Geore Struck; Anna, who made her home with her mother; and Margaret now the wife of Rev. Clifford Aulick of Fort Wayne, Ind. There were also four stepchildren in the family: Ferdinand, now living at Mallard, Iowa; Mrs. Clara Happel at Latimer, Iowa; Mrs. Ida Bert Jobst of Dexter; and Mrs. Earl Stearns of Story City.
In the year 1941, the deceased moved to a home in the town of Dexter where she continued to live until the time of her death. She was in failing health during the last few years of her life. On Wednesday morning of the past week she was taken to the Dexter Clinic where she passed away peacefully in the Lord on last Friday at the age of 85 years, 11 months and 4 days.

Aunt Lucy, as she was affectionately known to her friends, was a baptized, confirmed, active, and devout member of the Lutheran Church all her life. She was a faithful wife and a loving mother, not only to her natural children, but also to her step-children. She was of a pleasant disposition, made friends easily, and had many of them.
Surviving mourners, in addition to her children and step-children, named above, include 2 sisters: Nanny Ochs and Thoma Hohenstein, living in Germany; two brothers, Michard Clausen of Ann Arbor, Mich., and Neubert Clausen of Delaware Water Gap, Pa.; 24 grandchildren and 37 great grandchildren.
