IN MEMORIAM

Died, in Winterset, March 8, 1878, David Hallowill, aged 80 years.

The deceased was born in Pennsylvania Feb. 11, 1798. When quite young his parents moved to Jefferson county, Ohio, where he spent the early years of his life. While in that state at the age of 22 he was united in marriage with Miss Catharine Weston, who still survives him.

From Ohio he removed to Huntington county, Indiana, thence in 1854 to Jasper county, this State, and in 1867 to Walnut township in Madison county. Some three years since he came to Winterset.

While in the state of Ohio he united with the Baptist church, and has ever since identified himself with the interests of that denomination at different times serving the churches with which he has been connected as deacon and clerk. One object he had in removing to Winterset was for the enjoyment of religious privileges; but on account of feeble health has been able to attend church but little. It has been a little more than a year since he united with the Baptist church in Winterset. As a man and a Christian, as a neighbor and friend, he was highly esteemed by all who knew him.

Firm in his convictions of duty, ever true to what he believed to be right, yet always kind and genial in disposition; he was a man to be honored and loved. He leaves four children, thirty-five grandchildren, and several great grand children.

He is spoken of by the family as a devoted husband and father, and from the children who could be with him in his last sickness he received most loving attention. He suffered much during his illness, yet always expressed firm, confiding trust in his Saviour. A short time before his death he said Jesus had appeared to him, and that his crown was awaiting him. His last words were: "I am just ready to pass over the river."
