Armond M. "Sam" Cooper, 86, of Winterset died April 17, 2001 of cancer at the Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset. Visitation is today, April 20 from 12-8 p.m. at Ochiltree Funeral Service and Aftercare. Burial will be at Lorimor Cemetery with a luncheon to follow at the Lorimor United Methodist Church.
He was born February 4, 1915 on the family farm southeast of Lorimor to Robert Way and Jessie Ellen (Patrick) Cooper. He married Rose Catherine "Kate" Orwan on September 11, 1937 in Des Moines. He was a 1932 graduate of Lorimor High School and a farmer. He lived on the same farm where he grew up until moving to Winterset three years ago. He was a member of ASCS Union County Committee, Afton Farmer's Coop Board, Union County Compensation Board and the Lorimor United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.
Surviving relatives include his wife; two sons, William "Bill" Cooper and wife Janice of Newton and Dean Cooper and wife Beth of Pleasant Hill; one daughter Connie Clark and husband Steve of Orient; two sisters, Corrine Eischen of Story City and Roberta Wasserman of Colorado Springs, Colorado; five grandchildren and one great-grandson.
