Fern Deloris “De” Tracy, 83, died Aug. 8, 2007, at her home in rural New Virginia.
Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 13, at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola with Pastor Gary Morris officiating. Burial was at Fremont Cemetery in Clarke County.
De Tracy was born Feb. 4, 1924, in Madison County to Samuel Raymond and Laura Emma (Simmons) Hope and attended school in Winterset. On Aug. 20, 1944, she was united in marriage to Wallace Edward Tracy. They resided in Davis County for seven years before moving to Madison County and then Clarke County in 1958. De, a housewife and farmwife, was a member of the Winterset Presbyterian Church and Cheery Pal Club in New Virginia. She also was a charter member of the Osceola Eagles Lodge Aerie No. 3495.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Sandy Brown, and two brothers, Gene Hope and Larry Hope Nichols.
She is survived by her husband, Wallace, of New Virginia; two sons, Dan Tracy of Winterset and Jim Tracy of St. Charles; one daughter, Deb Sheets of Osceola; two brothers, Dick Hope of Des Moines and Rex Hope of Ankeny; two sisters, Rita Hagger of Tehachapi, Calif., and Margie Huffman of Longmont, Colo.; and 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Fern Deloris “De” Tracy, daughter of Samuel Raymond Hope and Laura Emma Simmons Hope, was born February 4, 1924 in Madison County. She passed away August 8, 2007 at her home near New Virginia at the age of 83.
De attended Winterset schools. She was united in marriage to Wallace Edward Tracy on August 20, 1944 in Winterset, and their marriage was blessed with four children: Dan, Sandy, Jim and Deb. She and Wallace lived in Davis County for 7 years before moving to Madison County and then Clarke County in 1958 She was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Winterset.
De was a charter member of the Osceola Eagles Lodge Aerie #3495 and belonged to the Cheery Pal Club in New Virginia. She enjoyed playing cards and dancing at the Eagles. She was a housewife and mother but also a farmwife who raked hay on the farm and ran the tractor to bale the hay.
De was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Sandy Brown; and brothers, Gene Hope and Larry Hope Nichols.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Wallace Tracy of New Virginia; son, Dan Tracy (Sandy) of Winterset; son, Jim Tracy (Gloria) of St. Charles; daughter, Deb Sheets (Elva) of Osceola; son-in-law, Larry Brown of Afton; 13 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; brothers, Dick Hope (Norma) of Des Moines and Rex Hope (Joanne) of Ankeny; sisters, Rita Hagger (Ben) of Tehachapi, CA and Margie Huffman of Longmont, CO; other relatives and a host of friends.
