Earlham Library Obituary Collection
Earlham, Iowa
May 1914

Mabel, daughter of George W. and Florence Lillian Couch was born in Buena Vista Co., Iowa, April 20, 1884; departed this life Sunday evening, May 17, 1914, aged 30 years and 27 days.

Deprived of a mother by death at the tender age of 16 years, Mabel assumed the care and responsibility of the home with her father and a small sister, gladly and cheerfully administering to their every need as best she could, beyond expectation of one of her age.

She was united in marriage with George W. Lee, Jan. 31st 1906. To them was born one son, Howard G. Mabel gave her heart in full consecrations to God in a meeting held in the Friends Church in the winter of 1910, uniting with the Friends Church in April of the same year. Ever after she lived a true devoted Christian life, being always ready and willing to sacrifice time and strength for those about her, who were sick and needy.

Thus has gone from us, one rich in the Christian graces. She leaves to mourn the loss, a husband, baby boy, a father and sister, a large number of relatives and a host of friends. Brief funeral services were held at the home, also at the Friends Church in Earlham, conducted by Rev. Stribling. She was laid to rest in the Earlham cemetery May 19th, 1914.
