Obit: William Newman Bowman was born at Brookfield, Tioga, Co., Pennsylvania on April 9, 1837 and died at his home in Madison County on June 21, 1904, aged 67 years, 2 months and 12 days.

At the age of 19, he made a trip to Illinois and later to Pikes Peak, returning to his native state in 1859. In 1860 he returned to Illinois and on December 25, 1862, was married to Mary Eliza Stanard of LaMoille, Illinois.

To this union were born six children, 5 daughters and 1 son, of these 2, Mary Catherine and John Bunyan died young. Four daughters, Mrs. Martha Ross of Parnell, Missouri; Mrs. Hattie L. Moffatt of Pierre, South Dakota; Mrs. Julia F. Jacobs of Caledonia, Iowa and Miss Ella M. Bowman, along with their mother, survive him. He also leaves 2 brothers and 2 sisters, John Bowman of Cowanesque, Penn.; Samuel T. Bowman of Fullerton, Nebraska, Sarah Bowman of Harrison Valley, Penn. and Mrs. Martha Erway of Whites Corners, Penn.

The funeral was held from the home on Thursday, after which the remains were taken to the Winterset Cemetery for burial.

W. N. Bowman, one of the old settlers of Madison county, passed away at his home in Monroe township at what was until a year and a half ago Gear Post office, of Brights disease. The funeral service was held at the home today (Thursday) and the interment made in the Winterset cemetery.
