Henrietta Spurgin McKirgan, 80, of Des Moines died from complications of an intestinal obstruction July 3, 2000 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services were today July 7 at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Des Moines and burial followed in the Glendale Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were handled by Westover Funeral Home in Des Moines.
She was born in Winterset and had lived in Cherokee and Aurelia before moving to Des Moines more than 50 years ago. She was a 1936 graduate of Winterset High School and had worked for Look and Wallaces Farmer magazines as well as the Pentagon in Washington D.C. during World War II. She was a member of the American Association of Retired Persons and the First United Methodist Church in Des Moines.
Surviving relatives include her husband, Ivan; one son, Craig of Indiana, Pennsylvania; one daughter Kay Lynn Crabb of Nemaha; one brother, Raymond Spurgin of Winterset; three sisters, Betty Ballantyne of Victorville,California, Mary Margaret Clague of Winterset and Barbara Holmes of Des Moines and two grandchildren.
