Martin L. "Bud" Harris, Jr., Kansas

Martin L. "Bud" Harris, Jr. 74, of Douglass, Kansas, died February 13, 2000 at Medicalodge of Douglass. Funeral services were February 16 at the First Presbyterian Church in Clay Center, Kan. The Rev. Robert Baer officiated the services and burial followed at Broughton Cemetery in Clay County, Kan. Funeral arrangements were handled by Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home in Clay Center.

He was born August 23, 1925 in Broughton, Kan. to Martin Luther and Florence (Conrow) Harris. He attended school in Clay County and served in the United States Army during WW II. He worked for the Alfalfa Feed Mill, Swifts, Simlo Manufacturing and Key Mill, all of Clay Center. He served as Clay County Under Sheriff from 1956-1960 and served as Clay County Sheriff from 1960-1964. He lived in Topeka until 1995 when he moved to Augusta, Kan., for long term care. He was a charter member of the Kansas Sheriff's Association.

Surviving relatives include two sons, Martin L. Harris of Arkansas City, Kan., and Ronald James Harris of Clay Center; two daughters, Mary Frances Jackson and husband Jerry of Peru and Barbara Jean Britt and husband John of Atlanta, Kan.; companion Donna Croy of Topeka; three sisters Florence Laflin of Kemah, Texas, Mary Jane Dalrymple and Dora Lou Laflin, both of Clay Center; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
