James Ted Griffith, Winterset

James Ted Griffith, 25, of Winterset died April 7, 2000 while serving his community as a firefighter. Funeral services were held April 12 at the United Methodist Church in Guthrie Center and burial followed at Union Cemetery.

He was born August 31, 1974 in Guthrie Center to Jim and Carolyn (Wall) Griffith. He was engaged to Kelley Jo Derrickson. He was a 1992 graduate of Guthrie Center schools. He was active in Boy Scouts and baseball in his youth. In high school he played football and was in the jazz band and the marching band. He was a firefighter over a span of six years, the last two and one-half years with the Winterset Fire Department. He was office manager for Quality Car Care in Winterset.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents.

Surviving relatives include his parents; one sister, Amy Cleveland and husband Chuck; a grandmother, Aura Wall, all of Guthrie Center; his fiance; a niece, a nephew and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
