Nancy J. Bowman, 56, of Missouri Valley, formerly of Winterset, died April 9, 2001 at the Longview Care Center. A mass of Christian burial was April 16 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Missouri Valley. Father Bob Harris officiated the services with interment to be at a later date.
She was born November 30, 1944 in Summit, New Jersey to W. Douglas and Marion (Hudkins) McRae. She married Jon F. Bowman on July 2, 1965 in Oskaloosa. She taught special education in Winterset and Missouri Valley and was instrumental in starting Special Olympics in Iowa
She was preceded in death by her father.
Surviving relatives include her mother; her husband; two sons, Bartlett G. Bowman of Auburn, Nebraska and Clayton J. Bowman of Omaha, Neb.; one daughter, Heather M. Smith of Cedar Rapids; two brothers, Douglas McRae of Oxnard, California and Robert McRae of San Diego, Calif.; two sisters, Marion McRae of Columbus, Ohio and Ellen Riley of Bowie, Maryland; one granddaughter and several nieces and nephews.
