CHESTER W. STANLEY

Chester W. Stanley, a son of Charles and Margaret Stanley was born on a farm near Earlham, on September 8, 1888 and quietly slipped away in the early morning of August 10, 1954 at the age of 65 years, 11 months and two days.

He was united in marriage in the year 1916 to Bertha Aldrich, to this union were born two children, a son Jack and a daughter, Ilene. Neither were permitted to remain long, Jack passed away at the age of three and Ilene at the age of eleven years.

When first married they lived on a farm northeast of Winterset, later they bought a farm north of Winterset where they lived until 10 years ago, when he bought the farm home where he was to spend his remaining days. He loved this home and took great pride and interest in its upkeep. He was an energetic man, and a good farmer. He was always interested in all the activities on the farm, he liked his stock and farm work, he held a keen interest in these even during his illness.

Just a little over a year ago he was taken to the hospital in Des Moines for an operation and although everything that skilled physicians and loving care could do was done, he never regained his health.

He was a honest, generous man who was always willing to help a friend in need.

He loved children, he was especially interested in his nieces and nephews and enjoyed their visits in his last days.

He bore his suffering uncomplainingly and it was a comfort to his loved ones, when on the day before his passing, he assured them that it was well with his soul and that soon he would be with his children in that better land where there is no pain or sorrow.

He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Bertha, nine living brothers and sisters; Frank, Wayne, Ralph, Mrs. Frank Clements and Mrs. Walter Cook of Earlham; George and Clifford of Dexter; Mrs. Gerry Hougham of Fort Des Moines and Dr. C. L. Stanley of Cummings, Iowa; many nieces and nephews and a wide circle of friends.
