Funeral Services Were Held Tuesday at St. Patrick's Church
Mrs. Julia McLaughlin, member of a prominent family in the Irish Settlement of Lee township, died Sunday, Sept. 12 at a Winterset Nursing home, after several months of ill health. She was 82 years of age.
Mrs. McLaughlin was the former Julia Horan. She was the last surviving member of the family of Timothy and Ellen Tobin Horan. Her father helped build the pioneer Catholic church at St. Patrick's where the present church now stands.
She was married in 1900 to John H. McLaughlin. They spent their life in Lee township until his death in 1945 after which she moved to Winterset to make her home with a sister.
Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. James Lynch of Cumming, Mrs. Jay Davitt of Fairfield, Mrs. Florence Sullivan and Mary McLaughlin, both of Des MOines; and one son Clarence McLaughlin of Ottumwa. One son John J. McLaughlin of Winterset, preceded her in death.
Funeral services were held Tuesday from St. Patrick's church in Lee township, conducted by the Rev. John Hart with burial made in the cemetery there.
