Wednesday, August 1, 2007Fern L. Marsh, 89, of Dexter died July 25, 2007, at Community Care Center in Stuart.
Funeral services were held Saturday, July 28, at Zion Lutheran Church, Dexter, with Pastor Luke Zimmerman officiating. Burial was at Dexter Cemetery.
Fern Marsh was born March 29, 1918, to Allen Madison and Mary Maude (Davis) Hadley of rural Dexter. At the death of her mother, Fern moved to Stuart to live with and work for Ernie and Florence Barringer. Her marriage to Robert W. Marsh took place Feb . 2, 1947, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Dexter with the Rev. Daib officiating. They made their home on a farm south of town for 35 years, retiring to Dexter in 1982. A homemaker, Fern was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church and active in the Ladies Aid and the Dexter American Legion Auxiliary, holding leadership positions in both. She also was involved with volunteer work in her church and community.
She was preceded in death by a son, John A. Marsh; two brothers, Elmer (an infant) and Lloyd Hadley; and a half sister, Iva Merrill.
She is survived by her husband, Robert, of Dexter; one daughter, Mary Ann Smith of Princeton, Ill.; two sons, Richard W. Marsh and David L. Marsh, both of Dexter; and 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements were handled by Kuhn Funeral Homes of Dexter, Earlham and Redfield.

Page 2Funeral services were held for Fern L. Marsh at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 28, 2007 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Dexter. Pastor Luke Zimmerman officiated.
Pallbearers were Brandon Marsh, Gavin Marsh, Alex Smith, Charles Miller, Greg Labuda, Bob Heim. Honorary pallbearers were Kathleen Labuda, Elizabeth Smith, M’Leigh Marsh, Janessa Marsh, Angelina Heim, Amber Marsh and Ashley Miller.
Fern L. Marsh, age 89, of Marshall St. in Dexter, Iowa, died Wednesday July 25, 2007, at Community Care Center in Stuart.
She was born March 29, 1918, to Allen Madison and Mary Maude (Davis) Hadley on their Bear Creek farm east of Dexter. At the death of her mother, Fern moved to Stuart to live with and work for Ernie and Florence Barringer. She married Robert W. Marsh February 2, 1947, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Dexter with Rev. Daib officiating. They made their home on a farm south of town for 35 years, retiring to Dexter in 1982. Fern was a homemaker and mother to four children, three of whom survive her. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church and active in the Ladies Aid and the Dexter American Legion Auxiliary, holding leadership positions in both. Fern enjoyed sewing and crocheting as well as volunteer work in her church and community.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Elmer (an infant) and Lloyd (Maryon) Hadley, a half sister Iva (Jasper) Merrill, and a son John A. Marsh.
Fern is survived by her husband, Robert of Dexter; daughter, Mary Ann (Duane) Smith of Princeton, IL; sons, Richard W. (Mary Jo) Marsh and David L. (Shelley) Marsh, both of Dexter; 10 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
Interment was held in the Dexter Cemetery in Dexter, Iowa. Kuhn Funeral Homes was in charge of arrangements.
