HERMAN E. KIRBY BURIED SATURDAY

Long-Time Resident of Winterset Died Thursday at Glenwood

Herman E. Kirby one of Winterset's well known residents for nearly all his life, died at Glenwood Thursday, April 1, after an extended period of failing health. He was 82 years of age.

Mr. Kirby was born at Linneus, Mo., on Sept. 5, 1871, a son of George and Chastine Dail Kirby. As a small child he came to Iowa with his parents. They settled in Winterset and this community remained his home through his life.

He was married April 24, 1902 to Josephine Groves, who preceded him in death. They were parents of five children, all of whom survive.

He was a member of the old Winterset Christian church and a former member of the Odd Fellows and Rebekah lodges.

Surviving are the five children; A. R. Kirby of Quantico, Va., Mrs. Evelyn McBride of Holtville, Calir., Mrs. Mary Hein of Spring Valley, Calif., Mrs. Josephine Klingman and Mrs. Lorraine Martin of Winterset; 16 grandchildren; three great grandchildren; a brother, J. H. Kirby of Winterset; and a sister, Mrs. Eva K. Jacobs of North Hollywood, Calif.

Funeral services were held here Saturday from the Anderson home for funerals, conducted by the Rev. Warren Hile, pastor of the Winterset Church of Christ. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
